Home-based Rehabilitation for Children with Intellectual Disabilities: I Can event on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities – Hama and Khan Sheikhoun (Idlib)

On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Syrian Society for Social Development team in Idlib, in cooperation with the UNHCR, implemented a group of activities in honor and appreciation of people with special needs.

 The beginning was with a welcome speech by a person with special needs, who gave his love and peace to the attendees, then introduced himself and talked about his personal and practical life, indicating that the disability was not an obstacle that prevented him from reaching his goal and achieving his ambitions, followed by a sports dance performed by adolescent girls and a Sketch performed by children with special needs.

In addition to displaying a video of a person suffering from amputation in his left leg who got a service from SSSD, where he was determined and did not give up to his disability. He worked hard and struggled to secure his life and means of livelihood.

 The day concluded with a competition performances, and then distributed cookies and gifts to the children.

 

Gender-based Violence: 16 Days Campaign Against Gender-based Violence – Nabd Community Center, Malh and Majdal villages, Sweida

“Safety for All: Gender-based Violence Is Not Acceptable!” Based on this slogan, and in continuation of activities of the 16 Days Campaign Against Gender-based Violence, the team of the Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD), Nabd Community Center, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR Syria), conducted several recreational and awareness-raising activities for women and adolescents in the villages of Malh and Majdal, Sweida.

Activities included making candles, sewing vests on which slogans rejecting violence in all its forms were printed, and making hourglass-shaped paintings with the slogan “Protecting Women Doesn’t Wait!” The Women’s Committees in the villages of Salkhad, Malh and Majdal Shour actively took part in the event.

One of the women expressed her feelings by saying: “It’s a lovely feeling indeed when the whole year one makes efforts to help reduce violence, then sees one’s efforts crowned with an event that gave us so much joy, through which we were able to deliver our message to many.”

 

Child Protection: Awareness sessions for Children and Women within the Small Steps campaign on the occasion of International Children’s Day – Beit el-Yasmeen Community Center, Banias, Tartous

(My right is to play, learn and to live in a warm, safe house in peace. With small steps from me and you, my life will complete and my rights will be colored by hope, joy and love)

As part of the International Children's Day campaign, the Child Protection team at Beit Al-Yasmin Center - Banias in the Syrian Society for Social Development, with the support of the UNHCR, carried out awareness sessions throughout a month for children and women from the IDP and local community inside and outside the center.

The sessions included raising awareness about the rights and duties of the children and highlighting talented children with exceptional abilities in Banias city. Where many tools were used during the sessions such as puppet theatre, awareness films, drawing and recreational activities between child protection clubs and their families.

 In addition to presenting protection risks and the framework for action within the file through Power Point presentation to the Women's Committee.

 The campaign ended with a closing event in the center with a choir, a children's drawing exhibition, a theater show, in addition to a group of recreational games.
