Thalassemia Heros -CBI

In a real story starred by epic heroes and heroines who lived in the shade. Their lives were nothing but struggle and fight against disease, who suffered in every sense of the word; nonetheless, they are still holding on to life, clinging to looms of hope. Out of the belief that all community members enjoy the same rights regardless of gender, ethnicity, or social class and that everyone has the right to proper healthcare and the right to receive treatment in proper facilities,
SSSD in partnership with UNHCR and cooperation with the staff of Al-Qamishly National Hospital carried out a CBI rehabilitating the Thalassemia section.
The CBI included cleaning up works, changing mattress covers, wall painting, installing an air-condition, TV and curtains, repairing serum stands and patient conveyance wagons. Upon completing the CBI works, an event was held honoring the staff hospital and many children suffering from Thalassemia.
The CBI was completed on 20 Oct 2018, benefiting more than 750 persons suffering from Thalassemia.

My safe park - CBI

Ensuring the safety of children while playing is one of the most important children rights. Out of the belief that playing is crucial for children development, SSSD in partnership with UNHCR provided support to a group of young men and women to rehabilitate a park. Some of the participants work in the administrative team of a school and others are the inhabitants of the adjacent neighborhood to the school. The youths removed tree trunks (cut logs) and reeds, cleaned up the park, repaired the playground equipment, and made benches from used tires. 
The CBI was completed on 22 Sep 2018, benefiting 1011 children from the school and adjacent neighborhood.

Having faith in the critical role women play in the community and the importance of providing the means for them to step in to find solutions for community dilemmas, SSSD team in cooperation with UNHCR supervised a CBI in Al-Layliyeh neighborhood, Al-Hasakah governorate carried out by a group of women to protect the inhabitants, especially children, from mosquito bites and Leishmania disease.  The women sewed mosquito nets and distributed them to the families residing in the neighborhood.
The CBI was completed on 24 Sep 2018, benefiting nearly 850 individuals/100 families.

Al-Khabour River Banks - CBI

Strongly believing in the abilities of the civil society to make a substantial difference through supporting individuals and directing their energies toward solving the problems they face, SSSD team in cooperation with UNHCR provided support to a group of men and youths to overhaul part of Al-Khabour river banks. They cleaned up the river banks, lit it up, planted trees, and set up benches to protect children and women from alcohol and drug addicts who used to hang out there in the dark, neglected area.
The CBI was completed on 27 Sep 2018, benefiting 1400 persons in the neighborhood.

Shelves and Shade - CBI

Out of concern to provide healthy environment for the local community in Bab Alhadeed, SSSD in cooperation with UNHCR conducted a community- based initiative titled “Shelves and Shade” installing shelves in front of Janat commercial bakery, where the inhabitants could lay bread, instead of laying it on sidewalks. The objective of the CBI is to prevent the spread of diseases, especially among children and older persons and to encourage the members of the community to propose solutions for the problems they face. A group of people experienced in smithery made and installed the shelves.

Eid Sweets - CBI

“I forgot when was the last time I made sweets. Today while I was making sweets at the center, I asked the staff to bring in some flour and ghee, and I felt as if I was talking to my own kids, whom I have not seen for many years. This feeling of joy is priceless!”
The joy of Eid is only complete with the presence of sweets, which bear eid’s spirit and a special symbol among people. SSSD team at Arabesque Community Center coordinated efforts with people from the local community to make sweets for Eid Al-Adha. The community- based initiative was carried out in cooperation with UNHCR to bring joy and happiness to the hearts of the inhabitants of Bab Al-Hadid. One- hundred fifty women and adolescent girls worked for two days to make several types of Eid sweets that were distributed to the families in need, especially the most vulnerable. “Thank you very much for bringing in happiness to our hearts, to our area. Arabesque you are at the core of our hearts.”
Similar to the joy of the people receiving the sweets, the joy of the women and adolescent girls making the sweets was overwhelming: the spirit of cooperation, laughter, folklore songs, and cheers were remarkable.  “This initiative brings in good memories about the long-forgotten gold days.”

Shat-ha Leishmaniapest control CLI

In order to increase the safety and protection factors for the families in Shat-ha, the Syrian Society for Social Development team in cooperation with the UNHCR organized a community initiative entitled "Shat-ha Leishmania pest control CLI”.
During the FGDs, the urgent need to control the insect pest that caused leishmania was observed. It requires spraying of the insecticide in an aerosol form. Insecticides are surface pesticides that do not harm human, animal or plant health. Therefore, the people proposed a CLI to spray the places where this insect was collected and to use appropriate pesticides under the supervision of specialists to reduce the spread of this insect, its harmful effects and eliminate its breeding grounds.

The "my new baby" CLI - Al - Sqailbia

In order to increase the safety and protection factors for infants and newborns, the Syrian Society for Social Development, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), organized a community initiative entitled " my new baby"
The husbands of the pregnant women in the village of Al-Asharnah in Al-Sqailbia cooperated and exchanged experiences in cutting the wood, painting it and then making wooden beds for their babies. The women explained that when their children grow a little, the beds will be presented to another family waiting for a new baby to ensure the continuity of the CBI.

The Children of the Child Protection Club Community-led Initiative-al-Hameh

“What an unforgettable trip! It’s the first time in my life I see a place that beautiful!”
With these and other words, the children expressed their happiness with the Children of the Child Protection Club CLI implemented by the Child Protection Club team at the Peace Community Center, al-Hameh, with the support of SSSD and UNHCR.
The activities of the CLI included a recreational trip for more than 100 orphaned children to al-Azem Palace through which the Club’s youngsters introduced the children to the Palace’s wings and history, in addition to various recreational activities.

 

CBI - Handicraft Skills

During our course to develop communities, and restore community unity, driven by our belief in the importance of mutual community mobilization, SSSD team in A-Hosn CC, in cooperation with UNHCR SoH launched “Handicraft skills” CBI aiming to provide knitwear for children, school students, and older persons from both Host and displaced communities, to protect them from winter cold.
Several women from local community who are experienced in knitwear participate in this initiative aiming to produce hats and scarfs for children and students to protect them from rain and cold during school hours, in addition to produce clothes for older persons made of wool to help them get through cold winter.
The women helped provide several types of knitwear to be presented for students and older persons, using pre-made lists organized in cooperation with the dignitaries of the area, to come up to a comprehensive initiative that includes all beneficiaries in-need in local community.
