The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the first document that clarifies the fundamental human rights that are supposed to be universally safeguarded. The celebration of the International Day of elderly Persons focuses on the importance of "fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of elderly Persons across generations".

Because elderly persons are our role models, our blessings, goodness and light, the Syrian Society for Social Development, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), held an event on the occasion of World Elderly Day in all community centers in Aleppo and its countryside.

The event aimed to enhance the importance of the role of the elderly persons in the community, to highlight the achievements they have made during their lives, to support them to achieve their public rights, and to highlight the importance of taking caring of them and meeting their different needs.

The event included an induction video of the International Day of eldery Persons and the goal of adopting the Day for elderly Persons and a summary of individual visits and group sessions that were implemented with elderly persons, A range of motor and intellectual activities aimed at revitalizing memory and creating a spirit of interaction and cooperation between those present and cultural competitions, a singing paragraph that was presented by children of the child - friendly space, and an initiative by the local community members who are specialized in shaving haircuts for the elderly.

The event concluded with a paragraph of singing and dancing through which the elderly said:

"Your Care and respect for us has an impact on us and will stay in our memory forever, we felt as if you are our children."

"It was the first time I knew that there is a day in which you celebrate the elderly persons, and this is the first time in which I attend in which I attend such an event."

"If there wasn't such a celebration, we wouldn't know that there is somebody who remember us, or there is a special world day for us, you made me glad and cry.

"When I learned about my retirement, I was so sad, but since you came to me and invite me for the sessions and events, I stopped thinking especially that we are playing youth games."
