I am Capable- Event

The Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) organized an event titled “I am Capable-Event” throughout the joint-managed centers in Aleppo City and its suburbs, celebrating the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The event included conducting awareness raising series and activities involving including people with special needs with other people in the Islamic Charity Association- Aleppo Orphanage and the Scouts of Syria- Aleppo Commission. The event was concluded with a breakfast feast accompanied by recreational activities, games, contests, and distribution of gifts.

“I have not slept for two days, I have been day- dreaming of this event and imagining how I would enter the restaurant and enjoy the feast,” as put by one child with special needs.
“My dad is missing; I really wish he was present to enjoy this day with me,” another child commented.

The parents of children with special needs expressed their gratitude to SSSD for including their children with other children. Here are some of their comments:

• “I never thought that people with special needs could master capitals in such a brilliant way!”
• “I loved dealing with them; they have qualities most of us lack.”
• “I learned how to deal with my brothers and sisters and I loved them.”
• “Please come again. We really had fun.”
• “I was worried that my son would feel irritated. This is the first time he remains calm and happy. I am glad I did not have to leave the event and head home. His happiness made my day.”
• “Thank you very much for your genuine care and efforts. You really brought happiness into our hearts.
