Little Steps Campaign

I do not know my rights and I am not aware of their influence in my life! The Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD) conducted “Little Steps Campaign” on the occasion of World Children’s Day and concluded the campaign with an event inviting beneficiaries from all centers throughout Aleppo Governorate.

The campaign aimed at increasing the level of awareness of the beneficiaries about their basic rights: the right to education, the right to play, the right to participate in cultural and art activities, the right to receive healthcare services, the right to freedom of expression, and the right to be protected against work which jeopardizes health and growth.

SSSD team highlighted those rights relying on interactive shows, such as, interactive theatre, puppetry show, Al-Hakawati, and shadow play. The event was held in Khan Kheir Beik around Aleppo Citadel, with the participation of 2000 children and 700 women and men. Children from the area surrounding the citadel, who quit school and who are involved in child labor or beggary, attended the event, too.

The children and their parents showed enthusiastic reactions. Here are some comments made by the children:
“Today I learned about my rights.”

“I learned how to carry on with my education. If I have to work in the future, I will look for a part-time job.”

Today was the best day of life. It was a magical world; it was a dream coming true. I never thought I would experience such a thing in the funny centers.”
“Learning about my rights was really great. From now on, I will stand up for my rights, I will spread the word to my parents and siblings the minute I see them.”
