Combating Gender-Based Violence in the Workplace

The Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD) in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) organized an event titled “Combating GBV in the workplace” in Aleppo. The event was held in all the community centers, satellite centers, and mobile teams, as detailed.


Mosaic Community Center, Amal Community Center, Shams Community Center, Arabesque Community Center, Sada Satellite Center, Rozana Satellite Center, Al-Wadihi Satellite Center, Al-Hader Satellite Center, and Maskaneh Satellite Center and its suburbs (Hiteen Complex, Ain Abu Manae Village, Dibsi Afnan).


The event targeted women, men, adolescent girls and boys, children, mothers of children with special needs, Old-But-Gold Program (women and men), women committees, Child Protection Club (children), outreach volunteers, as well as the centers’ facilitators, volunteers and staff.


The event included a Hakawati show and theatre scenes about the different types of GBV in the workplace, a video about a success story, and an exhibition for handicrafts and craftsmanship. In addition to showing ways of self-protection against all types of violence in the workplace. The organizers ensured exchanging points of views with the audience from the local community and concluded the event with joyful Folklore Halabi Quodoud.

• A mother of a child with special needs commented, “Being included in such events with other women, helped us acquire skills about protecting ourselves and our children.”
• A man revealed his new attitude toward his wife, “I took pledge upon myself to treat my wife in a new way full of love and respect.”
• A woman commented, “This event confirmed my belief that women are good decision makers.”
• The women collectively exclaimed along with the performers, “Speak up to end gender in-equality.”
